One hour far away from Belgrade is hidden Obedska pond, the second oldest preserved natural area in the world, after Yellow Stone! It’s true, it is in Serbia, but not so many people know about this beauty. If you are a lover of bird & rainforest, than you must visit this area.
In Obedska pond you can drive by catamaran for approx. 45 min, and cross on the other side of pond at the rain forest. There are three levels of protection area, we’ve come near the third. This is the habitat of oak trees that are three hundreds year old. We were told that this is the “healing place” and that some organizations are coming in order to connect with the trees. To be honest, we didn’t have time to experience, because we were more than welcoming guest to the mosquitos, so after a while, we ran away.
We continued our sightseeing and our guide took us for bird watching just near the pond. The fauna includes 220 species of birds. One of those that we saw, stood proudly, was falcon.
In the area, as everywhere in Serbia, people are more than welcoming. As we wanted to buy some honey, we went to one local house that has its one bees. This was the first time that I tried honey in honeyhamb. Funny, but I was delighted as well as my now very good friend from Dubai who tried it for the first time as well.
After a domestic coffee and honey we continued for a lunch at one local restaurant in the wood and enjoyed the “gulas”.
