Visit Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia – Highlights:

Day 1 – Welcome to Belgrade! We will wait for you at the airport Nikola Tesla and then take you to your hotel accommodations where you will have free time until the group gathers. First we’ll meet with the group and present the activities that we are going to have during the next 12 days. Then, it’s time to start – we’ll go for a Belgrade walking Tour (approx. 1.5, 2h). After, we will take you to try local specialties in the bohemian quarter Skadarlija. Then it’s back to the hotel to rest up for the next day.
Day 2 – Breakfast. Today, we will show you how an ordinary Belgradian day looks like. Go to the open market, drink a domestic coffee in the local café, and take city transportation while discovering Belgrade and Zemun. Today, you will learn about turbulent history on the both sides of Danube River – the part of Belgrade that developed under the Ottomans and the one that was under the influence of Western civilization. After an early morning “team building” we will gather at the Belgrade fortress, which used to serve as a Roman military camp. This fortress was the center of many historical events, which we will reveal during this tour. We will take public transportation and cross the Danube to Zemun, where we will have a lunch break in one of the best local restaurants. Then, get to know Zemun and Gardos, which offers a magnificent view over the Danube River. You then will have the option to experience nightlife, or head back to the hotel and relax before the next day.
Day 3 – Breakfast. Today you will learn about Nikola Tesla, St. Sava and Josip Broz Tito, three very important figures in Serbian history. We will visit museums of Nikola Tesla and Tito. Next up, discover the biggest Orthodox Church in the Balkans and find out who the medieval dynasty Nemanjici were and why St. Sava is so important for Serbian history. We’ll break for lunch in nature at Avala Mountain. After, we’ll visit the Monument of the Unknown Hero. We will climb 122 m up Avala Tower to see an outstanding view of Belgrade. Experience nightlife: Optional. Overnight.
Day 4 – Today we will take a history tour outside Belgrade. Our first stop is Viminacium, an archeological site dating to the 1st century BC. Excavation on this site began in the 19th century and it opened to the public for the first time 10 years ago. It is said that Viminacium has the same historical importance as the world famous site of Pompeii in Italy, due to its excellent preservation and its role as the capital of Upper Moesia. This underground city was a military camp. Archeologists are currently excavating the Roman cemetery and Roman baths that we are going to visit. Just few minutes walk from Viminacium is the Mammoth Park, said to be the biggest in Europe. Here you will see part of a mammoth skeleton, Vika, which was discovered in this area as well as remains of other mammoths that are hundreds of thousands years old. Our final stop on the tour is in the city of Smederevo, to see the medieval fortress that was built in the 15th century. It represents the highest achievement of medieval Serbian military architecture. Following this portion of the tour, we will break for lunch before returning to Belgrade.
Day 5 – Today we will take a mini Vojvodina excursion outside of Belgrade. This tour is a mix of culture, nature and city experiences. We will take you to Vojvodina, an autonomous province of Serbia that was under the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the end of WWI. During the middle Ages this area contained 35 monasteries. Today, there are “only” seventeen. We will visit monastery Krusedol, built in the beginning of the 16th century. The next stop along the tour will be the center of Serbian culture during the 18th and 19th century: the city of Sremski Karlovci. It may be small, but this city holds so much history. Everywhere you turn there are treasures of Serbian culture: an Orthodox Church, a Catholic Church, a Patriarchate Court, the oldest gymnasium in Serbia and much more. Following Sremski Karlovci, we’ll head to Petrovaradin Fortress, which has proudly stood watch over Novi Sad for ages. Built in the 18th century, it is the most well preserved fortress from that period. We will make a lunch break at one local restaurant located on a Danube River. Our final stop is city of Novi Sad. You will inevitably notice the influence of Western civilization and have the opportunity to walk through the beautiful, peaceful streets of Novi Sad, the city announced to be the European Capital of Culture in 2021! Back to Belgrade in the evening hours.
Day 6 – Breakfast. We will continue our journey to the center of Serbia. We will go to Ovcar Kablar gorge, approx. 2h drive from Belgrade. This area is called Serbian Mount Athos. It consists of 10 monastery that are located on both sides of Ovcar-Kablar Mountain. They represent Serbian culture and history dating back to the 14th century. If the weather allows, we will take a boat ride through this magnificent gorge. We’ll head to our accommodations and have lunch at the Ovcar Kablar spa. In the afternoon we will go for a short walk and visit a nearby monastery. Then enjoy free time for relaxing in the spa’s healing waters, at temperatures of 38°c. Overnight.
Day 7 – Breakfast. In the morning we will go for a hike to Ovcar or Kablar during which we will visit some 14th century monasteries where you will have opportunity to speak with the nuns and monks and learn many interesting facts about orthodox religion and the different values that they cherish. Lunch. In the afternoon, departure to Zlatibor Mt., the most popular mountain in Serbia. On our way, we will visit Ethno Park Terzica avlija. It represents the typical rural household from Uzice district with an old house and gardens as well as presentation of an old pottery craft. We will arrive in the late afternoon on Zlatibor. Free time. Overnight.
Day 8 – Breakfast. Excursion outside Zlatibor. On this tour we will visit Raca monastery, cultural heritage dating from the 13th century. During the ottomans rule, monastery was the center of a rewriting school thanks to which we managed to preserve Serbian culture. Lunch in the restaurant next to the beautiful waterfall. In the afternoon we will continue to Perucac Lake, take a boat ride and have a free time for swimming. Back to Zlatibor in the evening hours.
Day 9 – Breakfast. In the morning you will have free time to mingle with the locals. Visit Zlatibor’s open market where you can buy local products such as honey, rakija, jam, sweaters and more. In the afternoon, we will depart for rafting on the Tara River. The ride takes approx. 5h through untouched nature. We will take a break in Visegrad, arriving in the late afternoon hours. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 10 – Rafting day. After a breakfast that will consists of local specialties such as burek, proja, dry meat, and ajvar you will receive instruction regarding rafting. Rafting will last approx. 2.3 – 3h during which you will experience real adrenalin. If you choose to step into the cold Tara River, besides cold water you will feel crazy energy that will keep enjoying the whole route. Break for a photo shoot and drinks next to the waterfall. When we finish with rafting, a delicious lunch will wait for us in the camp. Free time for relaxing and enjoying the nature. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 11 – Breakfast. Departure to Belgrade. Ride will last approx. 8h. We will take a break and visit Visegrad, where Andric city and the Bridge on the Drina River are located. Lunch break. Arrival in Belgrade in the evening hours. For those who are not tired, we will organize a last night out. Overnight.
Day 12 – Breakfast. Departure to the airport. End of a journey.
